Venture philanthropy portfolio manager

Who are we?

Social Capital Foundation (SCF) is the philanthropic branch of Blink CV, an international single-family office that is focused on impact. SCF is running different grant and concessional funding based initiatives and focuses their impact on the following mission: ‘Reducing inequality through entrepreneurship in a greener world.’ The geographical focus is primarily Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America, with some initiatives in other developed and developing countries.

SCF works under a venture philanthropy model where grants and concessional investments are used with the intention to maximise impact. SCF's primary impact goal is to improve income, jobs, skills and agency of underserved populations, mainly low income women and youth in developing countries. SCF also works partly in a variety of sectors and topics.

SCF works with best in class partner organisations (NGO, social businesses, funds, academia) that aim to achieve large scale impact by replicating or scaling evidence-based programs in several regions. In addition, SCF works with impact investing partners in opportunities whereby grants or philanthropic-blended investments can be effective to deliver greater impact. SCF also undertakes other multiple philanthropic initiatives that aim to extend grants and support to other organisations that are connected with themes and interests of the overall family office mission: ‘Challenging the existing for a brighter future’.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a talented Portfolio manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Executive Director and will be engaged in the foundation’s overall daily activities. The position can be based in Amsterdam or Madrid.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Monitoring and managing SCF’s current portfolio. This involves being a point of contact for some SCF partners and helping in the supervision of the active collaborations.
  • Responsible for reviewing, analysing, and aggregating social/environmental impact data for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Support in assessing new and follow-on opportunities; supporting in part of the due diligence process and analysis of opportunities.
  • Internal and external communication about SCF’s projects and portfolio. This includes updating and maintaining SCF’s website.
  • Work collaboratively with the Impact team to ensure that robust and consistent impact data is collected and included into the quarterly/annual report.
  • Assist in the uptake of new digital tools to improve portfolio management and reporting.
  • Ensuring SCF´s internal administrative systems and support documents are updated and clear.
  • Organise initiatives or programs in support of SCF partners (events, training, learning sessions, etc.).

Who are you?

The successful candidate will be part of a small and focused team from various cultural backgrounds. Therefore we are looking for a team player with strong interpersonal skills. The following requirements are considered to be essential:

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, social investment. Professional experience or education in developing contexts and socioeconomic impact management and measurement is preferred.
  • Undergraduate and Master’s degree from top-tier university (subjects that can be relevant to the role).
  • Proven interest in the social business sector, NGO sector or disciplines that provide understanding of the challenges and opportunities of addressing inequality factors in specific contexts.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills. Experience in analysing and reporting data is a plus.
  • Passion for learning, adaptability, and openness to undertake different tasks within a thriving ecosystem of initiatives.
  • Excellent written, presentation and communication skills with a great attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal). Spanish is a plus.
  • EU work permit.
  • High level of personal integrity and discretion.

Investment Associate

Who are we?

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Investment Associate to join our Investment Team in Barcelona or Amsterdam. The Investment Associate is a core member of the investment team and will be primarily responsible for executing and managing impact investments in both funds and, occasionally, direct investments. Furthermore, the position also involves analysing industries and trends relevant to our geographies and impact themes, as well as supporting the accounting and operations related to deploying impact investments.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Perform investment due diligence on funds and companies that fit Blink’s investment mandate, including business, financial, legal, ESG and impact diligence.
  • Present transactions for internal approval and manage the investment closing process.
  • Manage the assigned portfolio of fund and direct investments.
  • Develop financial models to evaluate investment performance and support liquidity projections.
  • Research and prepare analyses relevant to impact investments to inform and guide the investment strategy, including thesis creation, market maps, industry research.
  • Support accounting and operations related to Blink Private Investments.

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience with a minimum of 3 years experience in private investments at an impact investing firm, venture fund, investment bank, development bank, or similar.
  • Robust financial skills; sound business judgement, modelling skills and demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity);
  • Master or undergraduate degree in business, finance, investment or other relevant coursework.
  • Client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on client needs effectively.
  • Willingness to travel, including emerging markets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Spanish is a plus.
  • EU work permit.
  • Experience in emerging markets and thought leadership in one of our impact themes (specifically Sustainable Food Systems, Energy Transformation/Climate Finance) is a plus.
